bio

Influenced by R&B artists such as Mariah Carey, Tamia, and Aretha Franklin, Alex got her start in music by singing as much as humanly possible, starting at a very young age. Now 24, her music style has evolved considerably - she writes the lyrics and arranges the vocals to all of her own songs.

Her third album, entitled Illusions, was two years in the making and is arguably her most cohesive work. "I wrote the majority of the songs on this album about one particular ongoing situation I was involved in for a long time. It created and continues to create a great deal of drama in my life; needless to say, it's a good source of inspiration."

Alex spent most of her life in northern California before moving to Seattle for college. She graduated from the University of Washington in June 2007 with a major in European Studies and a minor in Russian, having written her senior thesis on the influence of American R&B music on its Russian counterpart. She has always been drawn to music and singing, particularly in the R&B and hip-hop genres, due in large part to the emergence of Mariah Carey's career in 1990. Alex has been singing since the age of four, and began writing song lyrics at eight, combining her love of singing and writing. In addition to singing and writing, Alex also mixes her own vocals and masters her albums. She has produced three albums thus far using her MacBook and various version of Logic (Express 7 for the first album, and Pro 8 for the last two). She has also been designing websites since the age of twelve, including this one, and uses Photoshop and InDesign for her album cover art.

"I'm very proud of this album. I spent a lot of time making it sound like something I would want to listen to. So many of the songs were written so I could finally say everything I always wanted to say; granted, I took some poetic license with some situational details, but I think I get my point across."
